  • Trebor Scholz:The Organization of Digital Work, Next Steps for Crowdsourcing

This session will focus on the controversies of the digital and sharing transformation, such as the impact of the collaborative economy and platforms on traditional industries, labor and social contracts.

  • Louis-David Benyayer: Are Communities Empowering People or Reinforcing Dominations ?

As OuiShare Fest teaser puts it: "communities are transforming cities, organizations and civic action everywhere in the world". As this transformations prove to grow bigger every day, questions about their consequences arise. What are their meaning and direction? What relationships between individuals and corporations do communities allow for? Who governs them and how is value created allocated? More widely, we should now seriously question the new balances being established between empowerment and exploitation.

From Social Movements to Community Movements
Ludovica Rogers, Occupy London

2011 saw an unexpected wave of social movements sweeping the globe. With them new practices and ways of relating to each other spread and sowed seeds for alternative ways of organising and working together. Even if not as visible as before they continue to operate in the cracks of the current system as networked cells, some more dormant, some more active. Through concrete examples, I will give an overview of the emerging dynamics within the European context.

Tomas de Lara, O Sujeito

The Web 2.0 that's been around for 15 years only, allowed us to connect, organise, share and co-create with everybody around the world, instantly, with practically no cost. This recent phenomenon got us into an age of empowered people, who are increasingly understanding the power they now have to change the whole system.
2011's Arab Spring was a great example of that new era, and more recently, emerging huge manifestations with over 1 million people in the streets of Brazil have been telling us that now it's the time for us to use this new collaborative technologies to build together "a new thing".

David de Ugarte, Grupo Cooperativo de las Indias : Are old, even premodern communities becoming phyles?

While we use to focus on how cooperativism and democratic enterprise movements are being impacted by a P2P globalized world and inspired by new horizontal, open-soursed transnational models as free software; out there big old networks are changing almost invisibly.

Murides -a sufi movement originated in Senegal with 12 million members worldwide-, fetulajies in Turkey and Central Asia or catholic Focolare in Italy and Latin America, among other examples we will discuss, are suffering deep changes in the way the organize since 1989. This changes points towards redefining their organizations as globals networks of economically autonomous and productive communities according to principles not very different of those of economic democracy... As a consequence they are evolving to a new «thing» not so far from the canonical definition of phyle.

Mattias Jagerskög, Skjutsgruppen

We just had an idea. Nothing more. Not a company. Not a state initiative. Not a non-profit organization. Just an idea. An beautiful idea about good communication, active dialogue and sharing. The idea was that by talking to each other we could find people to share vehicles with, and on the way also share costs and parts of life. From day one "Skjutsgruppen" (the ridesharing group) was a movement. It had to be. Everyone participated since that was the very idea. You can't just talk about ridesharing, you need to act it out - to actually share. And you can't rideshare alone. We call it "direct action" and it comes with consequences that I will elaborate more about in my talk. To be truly participatory, to let everybody be a part of and have a voice in the movement. Not as customers, but as active participants. As a movement.

Work, Distributed: Horizontal, Liquid & Collaborative organizations
Work? It used to be pretty simple: you would be hired - as an employee - in a given company, do as your boss tells you to, and hopefully get a decent salary in return. But the world born out of the second industrial revolution is dying, and with it, corporations - and work - as we knew them. Do we still need hierarchical organisations? How can we truly work as a network? Are co-ops the solution to the work/capital imbalance?

Food & Agriculture: Visions for the Future
While speaking of communities in the sharing economy one should not forget that food and agriculture are at the very core of societies´ (and therefore communities´) needs.
From the early Teikei in the 60s to nowadays initiatives, what can we observe? What are the similarities, successes and learnings in the food area? Why are communities such a significant part of the future of food?
By bringing together producers and consumers, the rural & urban approaches, the southern and northern hemispheres as well as local communities our guests will share their experiences and visions of sustainable agriculture & food systems.
How can communities around farming and food facilitate social change? How can we rethink our relationship between producers and consumers in more participative, equal and sustainable ways? What other things can be done? In this focus-session we will have a look at those and more questions together.

Robertas Viskinis: Key lessons for building a trust model based on community values

A review is both an extremely simple and powerful tool. If used correctly by a marketplaces and communities, it can enable higher engagement levels, higher trust and deeper connections between the people operating within these communities. But as with anything simple, it is not so simple to create a structure which supports empowerment without leaving room for its easy abuse.

In this talk Robert will highlight the possible dangers, benefits and ways of creating a good review system for the web that brings value to individuals and communities as a whole, as the dawn of the 21’st century is almost over.

Robert is the founder and CEO of Trustribe, a user review system for marketplaces and has spent several years researching and speaking about reputation as a currency of the internet and different approaches to reviewing mechanisms.
