OuiShare Fest: The Collaborative Experiment, Take Two
Welcome to the 2nd edition of OuiShare Fest! When OuiShare started as a group of enthusiasts in a small parisian flat two years ago, none of us had ever dreamed we would organize one of the leading international conferences about the collaborative economy.

After a great first edition, this year we are bringing this collaborative experiment to a whole new level. Here's how to organize a collaborative festival from beginning to end!

Shifting Paradigms: From An Egocentric to An Ecocentric Economy
Ecocentric as of Ecology, is the study of interactions among organisms and their environment. The idea is that we should study and make decisions as humans with spirit, emotions, passions and so on, bringing the idea that we are living and complex organisms, and not only numbers and elements of economical interactions.

From Fab Labs To Fab Cities
How making stuff became news today? Why we (almost) removed manufacturing from our cities? After almost three centuries of industrialisation, we are envisioning how digital technologies are changing the way we live. Computers and the Internet have changed our life, but we still rely on a production line thousands of miles away from were we consume and use products. Digital fabrication will bring back productivity into our houses, neighbourhoods and cities, and will reconfigure the way we relate between humans, how we make transactions, and the whole economic and social systems. FAB City will try to look how can we start to shape the new productive cities.

An Anatomy of Misfit Philosophies: How to Hack Systems
In this talk, economic historian Alexa Clay brings attention to misfits in the black market, underground and fringe economies that actively pose threats to some of our ideas of progress and champion alternative visions of the good. Clay explores the different spatial orientations of misfit innovations and their relationship with the mainstream economy. She shares stories of insider misfits - transforming our systems from the inside. Runaway misfits who seek to incubate alternative approaches outside the system. Underground misfits, who remain under-the-radar in the black market and informal economies. And lastly, antagonistic misfits that engage in poking and prodding the system from outside. Clay shares reflections on misfits who occupy each of these different stances and exposes their motivations, rationales, and philosophies of systems change.

Bio-Hacking: When Biotech Breaks Free
The do-it-yourself biology (DIYbio) community is emerging as a movement that fosters open access to resources permitting modern molecular biology, and synthetic biology among others. It promises in particular to be a source of cheaper and simpler solutions for environ- mental monitoring, personal diagnostic and the use of biomaterials. The successful growth of a global community of DIYbio practitioners will depend largely on enabling safe access to state-of-the-art molecular biology tools and resources. We will show why and how the DIYbio community, in the context of a global governance development, is putting in place a safety/ethical framework for guarantying the pursuit of its activity. And finally we argue that the global spread of DIY biology potentially reconfigures and opens up access to biological information and laboratory equipment and that, therefore, it can foster new practices and transversal collaborations between professional scientists and amateurs.

Collective Intelligence: Evolving The 'We' Inside The 'I'
Collective intelligence has become the science that explores this question: how multiple I's can build smart conscious We's? As a researcher in this field, the reverse question fascinates me too: how does the collective operates in the I, exactly like in the movie The Matrix? Language, social codes, technologies, money, beliefs, food, time... all these collective forces shape the way we think, the way we see the world, how we innovate and make decisions. We call them invisible architectures. Ignoring them makes us as free as fishes in the fishbowl.

Therefore evolving our collective intelligence implies that we learn how to evolve the We that operates inside the I. Can I evolve language so I can see the world with a vaster consciousness in my being, and broader capacities in my doing? Do I still want to use money? What should I eat? How will I love? Which social codes should I leave and which ones should I invent in order to garden more powerful collectives? Evolving the "we" that operates in me has lead me to an experiential life, with its trials and errors, and beautiful treasures along the way. I feel excited to share them during the Ouishare Fest.

Challenges for Corporations in the Collaborative Economy
This talk introduces the challenges that companies face if they want to engage in the sharing economy. It also looks at what tools and methods might make it less risky and more ”normal” for a business to collaborate more widely.

The collaborative economy fundamentally challenges conventional business models:

  • The roles of the traditional manufacturer changes, when users are involved in value creation

  • The focus of design and production shifts from creating finished products to creating platforms for interaction and co-creation

  • Access replaces ownership, and other values besides just money motivate contributors

  • Control and management is different, when participants are not your employees, but voluntary or coming from different organizations

Sharing can obviously enable companies to create greater value at lower prices, and to connect to customers in deeper ways – but for an established company it is a risky, strange and unpredictable approach.

Building a Network of Networks
This talk starts out as a traditional presentation glimpsing into some of the amazing networks that have recently spread like wildfire. Some would say that these networks are part of the inevitable beginnings of the era of networks. Each nascent network an embryonic cell in our organisational metamorphosis.

In the second part of this talk, Shane will tap into the wisdom of the room to develop a proposal for a "network of networks"…. in just a few minutes. The audience is full of inventors and builders of networks and makers, entrepreneurs and dreamers. Do you want such a network of networks? Why? Who would it serve, include or exclude? What would be its aims, its rules? Who would be its rulers?

The People Are The Heroes Now: Sharing in A Changing Climate
The world is experiencing ever more extreme events as a result of a changing climate. Government and institutional responses to these disasters are vital, but the speed at which people can react to these events, either to escape from them or cope with the immediate aftermath, can determine whether people live or die. With ever more people engaging with sharing platforms – of every kind – our ability turn a key to bring immediate assets, resources, skills and critical data front-line disasters are dramatically increased. I would like to highlight existing examples of sharing for disaster relief in action; the potential for future innovation in this area – and importantly, the role of the sharing economy in planning for much wider adaptation of an unstable climate and scarcer natural resources.

Presence & Encounter: 'How' We Meet Is As Important As 'Why'
There is an art as well as a craft to staging inclusive, accessible, meaningful encounters.

Festivals are not about what to do, they are about how to be. In pre-modern times, communities had festivals once a week - sometimes more. In the absence of media, and institutions, these gatherings created trust, solidarity, and meaning. Those are also qualities that we need today.

We The Ambassadors
At the deepest level of human existence is arguably the fundamental guiding narrative or mythology that determines our understanding of our relationships to each other and to the planet. We are living in a disruptive moment during which the old narrative is disintegrating. Each of us has the opportunity- and, argues narrative strategist Ariane Conrad, the *moral imperative*-- to contribute to the development of the new one. All our work and all our words can and should be framed within the context of the new story. This is what it means to be an ambassador for the new paradigm.

4 key tips or strategies on how to be an effective ambassador are offered in this quirky, cross-disciplinary talk.

Is The Collaborative Economy A Self-Fulfilling Prophecy?
We all love collaborative economy. But do we know if such a thing exists ? It's a bold challenge to assume that non-profit and for-profit players, service providers and consumers, technophobic people and geeks take part in a single phenomenon. Let's go back to root facts and key people in order to decipher the true nature of the practices we mix into this "collaborative economy" idea, and to know whether it's consistent enough to deserve recognition as a phenomenon. One thing is sure : Collaborative economy is a culture, a new one, and it is fueled by the notion that a paradigm shift is needed, and that we are the only accountable players to be relied upon. And if it's powerful enough, this culture could become a true phenomenon.

Launch of FabJam 2014
FabJam is back for another year!Join many fabspaces across the world for a day of fun and creativity, using digital fabrication.
As a fablab, a makerspace, a hackerspace or any other fabspace, it’s hard to find time to talk to other spaces and to work on projects together… That’s exactly what FabJam is! 24 hours when all the fabspaces that want to participate work on the same theme, discussing with each other all day long…

This year, FabJam is connected to OuiShare Fest and Fab10, two great events that connect the sharing / making communities. The FabJam is also a part of the Global Fab Awards.

Juho Makkonen: Business Models and Pivots in the Sharing Economy

Anissia Tcherniaeff: Lessons on Community Building

Robertas Viskinis: Key lessons for building a trust model based on community values

A review is both an extremely simple and powerful tool. If used correctly by a marketplaces and communities, it can enable higher engagement levels, higher trust and deeper connections between the people operating within these communities. But as with anything simple, it is not so simple to create a structure which supports empowerment without leaving room for its easy abuse.

In this talk Robert will highlight the possible dangers, benefits and ways of creating a good review system for the web that brings value to individuals and communities as a whole, as the dawn of the 21’st century is almost over.

Robert is the founder and CEO of Trustribe, a user review system for marketplaces and has spent several years researching and speaking about reputation as a currency of the internet and different approaches to reviewing mechanisms.
